Shigella isolated from both blood and stool of a 22 year old female patient with diarrhea in Jeonbug National University Hospital on 28th June, 1975, -were examined biochemical properties, drug resitance, minimal inhibitory concentration of the drug(MIC), distribution of R factors and susceptibilities to serum bactericidal activity.
The strain isolated from stool showed indol test positive reaction. However, the strain isolated from blood showed indol negative reaction.
The strain from stool showed resistance to ehloramphenicol(CP), tetracycline(TC) and streptomycin (SM), and the R factors of the above-mentioned drugs were transferred to recipient. Whereas, the strain from blood showed resistance to ampicillin (AP), CP, TC and SM, and the R factors of the only two drugs(CP and SM) were transferred.
MIC of AP(0.375 mcg/ml) for the strain from stool was equal to that for the strain from blood, but MIC of CP(68.25 mcg/ml), TC(225.0 mcg/ml) and SM
